The Benefits of Dentures

Dentures are removable prosthetic teeth and gums sculpted to fit your smile and replace missing teeth. They match your natural tooth and gum color and shape.

If you’re missing most of your teeth, dentures can be a great replacement option. They’re simple, non-invasive, and easy to maintain. Dentures can be easily placed into the mouth and removed when cleaning them.

You can use a denture right away after tooth extraction. There’s no need to wait for more complex dental procedures such as an implant, which might require around a six-month treatment process from start to finish.

Dentures also prevent bone and jaw muscle degeneration, which can occur if you have missing teeth. They are often less expensive than alternative solutions.

Cleaning and Using Your Dentures

Cleaning is a breeze with dentures. You can brush them in the same way you would your natural teeth. You can use soap or a specialized denture cleaning solution with a soft toothbrush. Regular toothpaste contains fluoride, which is beneficial to your natural teeth but can be abrasive to your dentures.

We custom-make the dentures to fit inside your mouth, providing a tight seal to prevent slippage while eating or talking. You can also use a dental fixative to hold them in place.

You should remove them at night to give your gums a rest. Just brush away any fixative, and soak them in a cup of water.

What is the Process for Receiving Dentures?

Dentures can replace some or all of the teeth in your mouth. To make way for dentures to fit, some tooth extraction can be necessary first.

Full dentures usually require three to four visits to evaluate your needs, design them, and place them. We need to make sure you don’t have any dental issues that prevent you from using dentures. We can take impressions of your teeth to help us design and customize your prosthetics. Then you’ll typically come in a final time to try them out. If you’re not comfortable with how they fit, it’s not too late to let us know. We can adjust them and make sure they are comfortable and feel natural in your mouth.

What to Expect After the Denture Placement Process

It may take some time for you to get used to how they feel. You may experience some soreness, but this is normal and should pass soon. Over time your mouth, tongue, and facial muscles will get used to how they feel. Once this happens, you won’t even think about the fact that you’re wearing them.

Just let us know if anything doesn’t feel right. Continue with your regular dental checkups so we can help you make sure they fit and operate as expected.
